Physician Assistant Students
Students accepted into the Physician Assistant program have to submit their immunization requirements described in the packet below by July 25, 2014 to achieve immunization compliance. If a student cannot meet that deadline, please contact the Physician Assistant admissions department. Students will find out their immunization compliance status via MySHR (the online USC Student Health Record) by September. Please see the packet below for immunization requirements.
Once students have achieved a compliant immunization status, they will be able to rotate at their designated clinical sites. Their immunization status will remain compliant throughout their years at USC as long as students receive a yearly TB test to show immunity to TB. This test can either be a PPD skin test or a T-Spot blood test. Please see the TB Flow chart above to determine the test required for each individual student. In effort to make this requirement convenient to fulfill, the Eric Cohen Student Health Center schedules yearly “PPD Parties” in an area close to student classes. Student Health staff place the PPD skin test and then return 48 hours later to read the test. The test is free and results are uploaded into MySHR. If students require a blood test, they can schedule an appointment at the Eric Cohen Student Health Center. The blood will be drawn and results will be sent via MySHR within 3 days. The test is $46.00 but is covered at 100% if students have Aetna Student Health Insurance. A TB test is good for a whole year (i.e. from June 01, 2013 – June 01, 2014 or August 23, 2012 – August 23, 2013). Therefore, all TB tests need to be performed before the expiration date of the previous test. This will allow students to remain compliant and continue clinical work.
THESE REQUIREMENTS DO NOT APPLY TO RESEARCH BASED MASTERS/PH. D PROGRAMS. THESE APPLY TO STUDENTS PERFORMING CLINICAL WORK WITH PATIENTS IN MEDICAL CENTERS.
